Who would have thought just a few decades ago the extent mobile technology would permeate life today?

Now it’s on the verge of being used to improve health outcomes for people with osteoarthritis (OA).

Dr. Markus Wimmer is one of 11 researchers to receive Arthritis Foundation funding in early 2016. His study involves special shoes with flexible insoles and a smartphone app that measures changes in walking patterns.

The purpose of this cutting-edge research project is to train OA patients to walk in a way that reduces pressure in their knees, which may curtail joint pain and disease progression.

Find out more about this in-progress scientific investigation.

And look for our next research update on an initiative underway to prevent or delay the onset of OA.
